Guideline and Basic Rules for ThePrintSwap ! >>HOME

Though being an event to promote Art and photography we need certain rules.

Basics:

  • You are swapping prints among friends, there is no competition and it is not a forum to embarrass someone. Please follow netiquette and behave like gentlewoman and gentlemen.
Please consider different countries have restrictions and laws regarding nudity and politics/religion. Please dont swap images with an offending content or content that is not in line with the country of your swap partner.
  • The photographers must be the owner of the rights on the swapped print.
  • There is no commercial background with this website, we dont sell images or services, we dont advertise or link to commercial websites. We dont harvest email adresses and dont spam the participating photographers. The website is the forum and helps organizing the swaps, it is not responsible for the quality/content of the prints.
  • The project must not be used for commercial purposes, don't sell the prints that you receive.
  • There is no membership required to join, your put your name and contact on the list, you can leave anytime. You can join the forum later (optional).
  • The photographers exchange the mailing address directly during the swap, the website does not store this data.
  • If you dont want post a print to a oversea address, dont participate.
  • By agreeing to particiapte you agree to abide the rules.

The Prints :

  • The images can be black and white or color. No matter if produced digital or the old fashioned way with film. But only traditional tools should be applied (tone, contrast, dodging). It is not a digital exchange for PS works (not yet, maybe later in different sections).
  • The images should have a certain quality, we are not necessary swapping fine art prints (try to get close to it !) but also not exchanging snaps from the last birthday party and the blurred holiday pics made behind the tourbus window. We swap art, if blur is part of your work, so be it.
  • The prints need to be mounted (at least on plain board) and signed together with a picture title. Treat it as if you would sell it to a collector. Nice if you can provide some additional information about the picture.
  • The prints should not exceed an A4 size including mount (window mounted or plain on board) in order to keep the postage fee low (international!).
  • The prints must be produced either in your own darkroom, by a lab or using inkjet with archival ink.
(Prints made with standard inkjet printer are not acceptable due to low ink quality. You dont want to send a print to someone and it starts fading away after 4 weeks).

The swap process:

  • 2 weeks before the swap period starts you get an automatic email reminder that ask you to confirm your participation in the next swap. If you dont have time to swap then skip it and join (confirm) next time again.
  • When the swap starts you get paired (randomly) with another photographer.
  • Within 2 weeks you need to exchange mail addresses and send out the prints to each other.
  • Enjoy the pleasure to get a print.
  • Depending on the number of participants we try to have one swap every 2 months at the beginning.

Thats about it. Have fun printing and swapping.
